Who's for

This article is for people that:

  • Use IE (Internet Explorer)
  • Have an English version of IE (of course the shortcuts will works with some other languages, but some may be a bit different depending the IE's language)
  • Navigate several pages daily
  • Have some practice with shortcut keys
  • Hate to use the Mouse for each step

There are other previous articles that i wrote that can teach you easy in how to use shortcut keys, you can consult them any time you wish (please see the bottom of this page for these Programming.a.baby article's series)

What i'm not going to do

I know that i could easy make this article by splashing here an entire list of IE's shortcuts and let you learn by your self.

But i would'nt be so friendly if i do this, right! - so i decide to take some time and to create some images to make it easy

Lets practice together, shall we!

 

Within our page

I'm using IE 9 series at the moment but you can use the IE 7 or 8

You have at least one open page in this moment, our you wouldn't be reading this article, right| ;)

Refreshing Web Page

You can do this by pressing:

  • F5 key
  • CTRL + R (R = Refresh)


Navigate trough Tables

I've open 3 pages, This one (Hubpages), Other before this(Microsoft) and the last one after this (Sinalsoft)

Our Page's Tab

See all 6 photos

Now click the following to move to the next table (see image bellow):

  • CTRL + TAB

After our Page's Tab

Now click the following to move again to our page's tab :

  • CTRL + SHIFT + TAB

And click again the same keys to move to the other page's tab before this (see image bellow):

  • CTRL + SHIFT + TAB

Before our Page's Tab

Navigation UP and Down

  • SPACE or PgDown - Will move you One page down
  • Shift + Space or PgUp - Will move you One page Up 
  • Home - Will move you to the Top of the page
  • End - Will move you to the Bottom of the page

IE Menu Shortcuts

Time for call the IE menus, keep pressing the shortcut keys that I'm showing you bellow and then hit ESC to escape from the open Menu

  • CTRL + D and then ENTER will add this page to your favorites, so you can return here and keep practicing (see image bellow)

 

  • CTRL + H - Will call History (image bellow) Hit ESC for escaping history

  • CTRL + O - Will open the Address dialog so you can type an web page's URL


Now without Images

  • CTRL + S - It prompt to save the page inside your computer
  • CTRL + F - Will open the Page's Search (FIND)
  • CTRL + J - Open the Downloads dialog ("JUNK") :)
  • CTRL + N - Clone your page opening it in another Window (NEW)
  • CTRL + K - Clone your page opening it in another Tab ("KLONE") :)
  • CTRL + B - Opens the Bookmarks dialog so you can organize them
  • CTRL + E - Moves the cursor to your address bar ("Entity") :)
  • CTRL + W - It will Close your current Tab (DON't DO IT HERE in this page) ("WAS once upon a time a little page")

Primary IE Shortcut Keys F#

  • F1 - IE's Help
  • F2 - (Empty)
  • F3 or CTRL+F - Find
  • F4 - History's Address bar
  • F5 or CTRL+R - Refresh Page
  • F6 or CTRL+E - Address Bar
  • F7 - Caret navigation activation
  • F8 - (empty)
  • F9 - (empty)
  • F10 or ALT - Menu Bar (case you did hide it before)
  • F11 - Full Screen
  • F12 - Developpment tools for programmers and curious guys ;)
