Programming.a.baby - (Windows) Shortcut Keys for Webpages (IE)

By

Open Links

In case you don't know, there are several ways to open a Web Page URL within Windows and with Internet Explorer, you can open it by:

  • Pressing a Desktop or Windows Explorer shortcut (1 click)
    • Problem here is that you will fill your Desktop with many unnecessary things
  • Clicking a Favorite or Bookmark in the IE browser's menu (2 clicks+)
    • Is better but if you have plenty, it takes time to find it
  • Writing the address in the Address bar (Typing)
    • Seems the best way, but not good enough if you have some favorite pages and you have to type thousands of times the same address and what to say about errors? - Imagine that you type www.mywerapagenowb2.com , but you wanted to type www.mywerdpagenowb2.com , im some cases you risk to open a similar page that contains malicious scripts or some kind of attack, some violent advertisers or publishers or even hackers use similar domains after studding how and where a person can make errors typing an web's address.
  • Having the web page as your Home Page
    • This is the best way if you do not want to have any work typing, clicking or searching, but you can only have One Home page (OK, OK, i know that some browsers offers a way to open various home pages at same time, but do you want them to open all each time you only want to open one page? imagine all the cookies being installed inside your browser, all those scripts being executed in each page, all the images loading congesting you connexion)
  • Using an Internet Keyboard with predefined and settable Key Shortcuts
    • You will have to replace your keyboard case you do not have one of these and to buy another, this costs money, also it will be maybe to big keyboard for your needs, is a decision to make

.

Another Way

I'm not saying you cannot use some of these methods, but i will show you a clean, better and secure way.

You should only use this method for some Favorite pages that you like and often open, since that if you start to do this with many other pages, you will forget it which shortcut opens what.

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Open the web page you want (favorite one)
  3. Be sure that you are in the Home page of that website or that the page you are visiting will remains for some time (we do not want them to erase that web page later, and your shortcut will be obsolete)
  4. Use your IE's menu to create a favorite shortcut (IE --> Favorites --> Add as Favorite)
  5. Now return to the Favorite's Menu and Right Click the Shortcut you just created and select Properties
  6. It will opens a small window, and inside there is a Cell named Shortcut Key, click inside and now lets create our shortcut using CTRL + SHIFT + some key you wish
  7. For example: suppose that the web site's name is www.education182726.com, lets then click and hold at same time CTRL + SHIFT and then we click the letter E ( (CTRL + SHIFT) + E )

Done, now each time you want to open your favorite page you just use this combination of keys you did set.
